STAMFORD, CT. ( November, 2010) — Fairway Wines & Spirits (689 Canal Street), a 6,500 square foot store will open on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 next door to the new Fairway Market (699 Canal Street) off Exit 8 on 95 part of the Harbor Point Project.
This will be the second Wine & Spirits store for the company, the first having opened next to the Fairway Market in Pelham Manor, NY last April.
The shop will feature approximately 2,500 wines, more than 600 varieties of spirits from around the world and over 500 different specialty and traditional beers. There will be a temperature controlled room for the high-end wines and a highly qualified staff of specialists and sommeliers on the premises to help customers with choices.
“Giving our customers the best and widest variety there is to offer at the most reasonable prices is what has made Fairway Market so successful,” said Howie Glickberg, grandson of Fairway’s founder. “Our second wines and spirits shop will follow that same tradition with an extraordinary selection at great prices.”
The wine selections will include the large national brands, local wines, kosher wines, organic and biodynamic wines, sparkling and dessert wines and a variety of esoteric wines from smaller vineyards. Fairway also intends to carry wines from different parts of the world that will be exclusive to Fairway Wines & Spirits.
Shoppers will find liquors of every type from all regions of the world, ranging from high-end brands to very economical ones including the most comprehensive selection of single malt whiskey in Fairfield County. The store will also offer events with winemakers, bottle signings and tastings with brand ambassadors, as well as an array of glassware, corkscrews and informative guides on wine and liquor.

JED SIMON – STORE MANAGER for Fairway Wine & Spirits
Jed’s interest in wine was sparked while working at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon at the Four Seasons Hotel. Proceeding from there he worked for several restaurant groups and eventually became the beverage director for at a Michelin Star restaurant in Manhattan. During his time in restaurants, Jed was trained by the American Sommelier Association and completed its highest degree of Advanced Blind Tasting Certification. His passion for wine is as diverse as his interests outside of work. Jed can be found surfing, skiing, and attending every New York Rangers game that scheduling permits. He is also an avid runner and completed his second NYC Marathon this year. Jed ran for Paul Newman’s Hole in The Wall Gang Camps and raised enough money to send two children to camp during the summers. He is a resident of Greenwich and a volunteer coach for the Greenwich High School hockey team.
